Reverting a link, and fixing a learner who appears twice

The adviser can undo a merge for seven days. Past that, or after a release, the fix is on the class roster.

Who can revert, and when

The adviser of the class, from the class's Subjects page. Accepted links sit there under RECENT MERGES — Reversible for 7 days, each with Revert. If you are the subject teacher, ask the adviser.

What reverting does

  1. Your own learner rows come back, and the scores on this gradebook's activities move back onto them.
  2. Learners you added to the class roster during the merge leave the class again.
  3. Learners who were only on the class leave your subject.
  4. The gradebook goes standalone again, with its own section label.

Grades recompute afterwards. Nothing you encoded is lost either way.

What stops a revert

  • More than seven days have passed. The message says so plainly.
  • Report cards were released after the merge. Revoke that release first. Otherwise cards already in learners' hands would stop matching the gradebook.

A learner appears twice after a link

Almost always a Needs review pair left undecided: undecided counts as a different child, and a different child is added to the class roster.

Within seven days. Ask the adviser to revert. Then link again and press Same learner on that pair.

Past seven days, or after a release. The adviser opens Learners, finds the duplicate row and uses Remove from roster. The scores on that row are kept but hidden with it. Check first which of the two rows holds the encoded scores — remove the empty one, or re-encode on the row you keep before you remove anything.

What if

  • The subject teacher wants out but the adviser is not around. Nothing breaks in the meantime. Encoding, computing and previewing all carry on while the gradebook is linked.
  • The merge matched two different children. That is worth reverting rather than editing around. Their scores are on one row now, and a revert separates them again.
