Adding a school email to your account

Prove a school address with a six-digit code. A trusted domain verifies you on the spot; anything else queues that school for review.

Add it

  1. Settings → Schools and verification.
  2. Type the address into Add a school email and press Send a code.
  3. Read the six-digit code from that mailbox, type it in, and press Confirm. Wrong address? Change address puts you back a step.

A trusted domain answers with "Verified — that school domain is trusted, so your account is now verified." Anything else answers with "Added the school. That domain is not auto-trusted, so this affiliation waits for review." — the school is on file either way, and a reviewer picks it up.

What it does, and what it does not

It adds a school affiliation. You may hold several, each verified on its own, because teachers move and some teach in two schools at once. The first one becomes your primary.

It does not change how you sign in: your sign-in address stays the one you registered with. And it does not raise your limits twice — classes, gradebooks and roster size are counted per account, not per school, so a second school does not grant a second set of classes.

When it does not go through

  • "That address already belongs to another account." Someone registered with it. If that was you, on an older account, message us on Facebook with your support reference rather than building a second gradebook.
  • "A code was just sent. You can ask for another in 43 seconds." There is one live code per address. Wait it out; the new code replaces the old one.
  • "That code has expired. Ask for a new one." A code lasts ten minutes.
  • "Too many tries on that code. Ask for a new one." Five wrong tries retires it. Asking for a fresh one is safe and costs nothing.
  • "That code doesn't match." Usually a transposed digit. The code is six digits, no letters.

Nothing arrives at all? Check spam, then check the address for a typo — the code goes only to the address you typed, not to the one you signed up with.
