Your dashboard is not one page
Overview follows the hat in the top bar.
- Brand new, nothing created yet — the getting-started page: three ways in (create a class, start a gradebook, join with a code), the six-step path to a printed report card with the next step marked, and the sample class beside it.
- Adviser context — it opens the class overview for the class you were last in. That screen is the adviser dashboard.
- Subject teacher context — Your teaching load: a card per subject you own or co-teach, showing encoding progress, learners below passing, and any score deadline the adviser set.
What the class overview is telling you
- Encoding progress — subjects against terms, so you can see who has not finished without asking anyone.
- Release readiness — the pre-flight check for the term in the tab, with blockers and warnings kept visually apart.
- Roster health — only the rows that are not zero: learners with no email address (their cards are printed), an LRN missing or not 12 digits, the same LRN on two learners (one of them is a typo), and anyone transferred out.
- Needs a decision — a gradebook asking to link, a learner claiming a portal account, an invitation a co-teacher has not accepted. It says All clear when there is nothing waiting.
Everything on the page belongs to the term in the tab, and the term is in the address, so a link to a term opens on that term.
Switching hats
The switcher in the top bar changes the accent colour and what the sidebar lists. It is not a permission. What you may open is decided on the thing itself, every time, so switching hats never grants or removes anything — it only changes what is in front of you.
If it opens somewhere unexpected
The dashboard remembers the class or subject you were last in. If that class was deleted or archived, it settles on your most recent one instead. Pick the one you want from the switcher and it stays there.
