Where you write it
Class → Report cards. The comment box sits above the preview, so you write it beside the card it prints on and can see the grades the parent will read next to it.
Step by step
- Pick the learner from the picker at the top. It searches, so you can type a surname.
- Pick the period — "Through Term 2". The label on the box names the period the comment prints in.
- Type up to 280 characters. The box stops there, because the printed box on the SF9 is small and a longer comment would be cut off.
- Save comment, or press Ctrl+Enter. On a Mac, Cmd+Enter.
- Next learner without one jumps to the next learner in roster order who has no comment for this period, wrapping around to the start. When everyone has one it tells you so.
Until you save, a reminder beside the button says the comment is not saved yet.
Knowing where you are
The counter on the right of the box reads "12 of 38 written" — active learners with a comment for the period showing. It turns green at the full count.
Changing or clearing one
Write over it and save again. To take a comment off the card, empty the box and press Save comment; the toast confirms it is cleared.
Two cases with no box
Year-end. Comments belong to a grading period, so the year-end view shows a note instead. Choose a period above to write the one that prints on it.
Kindergarten to Grade 3. Descriptive classes have no comment box here. The narrative per learning area on the Descriptors page does that job on the Learner's Progress Report.
