Recomputing
Every score you change queues one recompute for that subject and term, so a burst of typing costs a single pass rather than forty. While it is queued, the term grade shows recomputing… and the number fades. It normally lands in a couple of seconds.
Your scores are saved either way. Recomputing is never unsaved work.
If it has not landed after about half a minute, the class record says so and offers Compute them now, which does the arithmetic in front of you instead of waiting for the queue.
On the class Grades page the same thing reads: Some term grades are still recomputing. Numbers shown faded are not current yet. Recalculate year-end there recomputes the final grades and the general average across every subject.
A dash instead of a grade
— means the grade is not computable yet, and the reason is on the cell and in Explain this grade:
- No activities in this term yet. Add one under each component.
- Written Works has no activities yet. Every component that carries weight needs at least one activity before any learner gets a term grade.
- No scores recorded for this learner in this term. The columns exist; this learner's cells are all blank.
- No scores counted in Product/Performance Tasks yet. Every activity in that component is blank or excused, so there is nothing to divide.
Nothing is ever shown as 0 or 60 to fill the gap. A grade that cannot be computed stays missing, and a subject missing a term shows INC on the year-end grid rather than a guess.
After a change that is not a score
Editing an activity's total points, leaving an activity out of the grade, putting it back, or swapping the transmutation table all mark the term for recompute too. The same rules apply: the change is saved, the cached grade catches up.
